International Network Meeting of the European School of Materials

The 2nd International Network Meeting of the European School of Materials includes a series of events that will take place from November 11th to November 15th 2019 at Saarland University. The overall goal is the networking between former and current students and researchers from the Materials Science Department, from the EUSMAT programs as well as from our partner universities. The second meeting should give a further impulse to the Materials Science and Engineering Chapter of the University Association, that was inaugurated during the 1st meeting done in 2017 and should help establishing and keeping the contact with former students and researchers of our department.

The following activities are planned:

  • Alumni-Meeting: on November 11th and November 12th takes place the Alumni Meeting, and with students and professors of our department. The participants will have the chance to present their own current activities, which will serve as an impulse for discussions towards possible cooperation activities.
  • Workshop on Microstructure Analysis: on November 12th and November 13th prominent researchers in the field of 3D-materials characterization have been invited to give several input talks for the discussions of the different topics among all participants.
  • Workshop on International Research Funding and Innovation Workshop: In a first block, experts will report on the various possibilities for project funding and application in an international context. The presentations will be tailored to the countries of origin of the participants. In a second part, concrete ideas of the participants will be discussed in a workshop and elaborated with regard to concrete projects. Innovation and transfer activities will be the focus of the workshop.

FINANCING: With the support of the DAAD, Erasmus+ and Franco-German University, the participation of 30 Alumni, which have to participate in the whole event, can be financed under different schemes:

  • 16 Alumni of German Universities currently working/studying in developed countries outside Germany
  • 6 Alumni of German Universities currently working/studying in developing countries outside Germany
  • 8 Alumni of our partneruniversities (UdS, LTU, UL, UPC, LiU), not belonging to the previous category

About EUSMAT

The European School of Materials (EUSMAT) was founded in 2008 and is located on the Campus of Saarland University. EUSMAT is part of the faculty of Materials Science and Engineering.

EUSMAT supports the Department of Materials Science in working together with an experienced consortium of renowned European universities in the field of Materials Science and Engineering; operating together with a versatile network of contacts in third countries.

EUSMAT is also in charge of several international study and exchange programs, such as the Atlantis Bachelor, the AMASE Master, the I.DEAR Master, DocMASE, the Create-Network and SUMA2. Furthermore, EUSMAT creates and coordinates a network with industrial partners interested in collaboration with the university network in aspects such as education, further training and qualification of international, employable leaders.

Alumni of German Universities currently working/studying in developed countries outside Germany can still apply until 30th of September 2019.
